It's Obama vs. Palin in an ongoing health care debate taking place on their Facebook pages. The president has 6.6 million supporters, Palin fewer than 800,000, but her attacks on health-care reform are pointed and her followers outspoken, as has been noted in political journals. Both pages are regularly updated with health care posts. Facebook ads, which provide demographic information on the 73 million American adults on Facebook, shows 1.9 million users strongly identify themselves with the Democratic Party and 1.6 million strongly identify themselves with the Republican Party. Are conservative voices crying out elsewhere on the Web? Where? Do you think the online health-care debate is valuable?

How do you know who's on Twitter in your community? Good question. That's why we're compiling a Twitter directory. Sign up here. So you can get the right followers, and you can find the right people to follow. The directory is searchable, so the other knitters in Elizabeth can find you, and readers can find your blog. And you want customers to find your business on Twitter, right? Tomorrow we'll announce who won a free lunch for being among the first 100 to sign up.
The Southeastern Conference has loosened its rules on social media. The verdict: Video is out, Twitter is in. Or actually, any kind of broadcast is out. The new rule outlaws anything that could be "a substitute for radio, television or video coverage." That's what was expected, as the SEC safeguards its $3 billion contract with CBS. But why was the rule -- which prohibited all social media at games -- so strict in the first place? We're in an odd place with social media: Half the establishment (whatever that is) wants to be taught how to "do it right." The other half wants to shut it down. For more on the SEC ruling, see my blog post here, and Mashable's update here.
Facebook has reassured Canada that the giant peephole will strengthen users' privacy controls. Our northern neighbor demanded Facebook demonstrate more attention to privacy rights. Wish this country was more pro-active on that.
The Huffington Post has hooked up with Facebook to aggregate friends' favorite news stories. The New York Times did something similar last year. I like it, but will this create even more of an insular news community in which you hear what you want to hear?
There was just an enormous amount of Panther commentary on Twitter during last night's game. Knew it. The tweeps who vowed they would only watch the game couldn't resist second guessing calls and tweeting high-fives.
The call went out on Facebook and Twitter today when Mark Epperly of Charlotte lost his white German shepherd near The Plaza and Eastway. She's wearing a pink collar. E-mail him at Alifeyoudreamof@gmail. This is what the real-time Web is good for.
For God's sake, hide the Farmville application on your Facebook page. Just look to the right of your friends' posts about it, and click HIDE. Hide anything you don't want to see. Or anyone.

Maybe we can start following Howard Dean, the moron that he is. And genius, Palin just started, she will have more followers than Acorn Boy has any day soon now. Quite the leader, ain't he? Joke is on you Nick Mackey voters...
ReplyDeleteHOWARD DEAN: At the end of the day, I think we will. First of all, the president is a very smart guy and he knows very well this can’t work without a public option. Secondly, you know he’s run into a rough patch in the Senate, mostly because of Democrats, honestly.
The Republicans, they have no interest in this Bill. They’re using the 1994 playbook. Let’s kill the bill and kill the president...... or, kill the president’s term. Although there are sort of angry people out there I get very nervous about this stuff. I don’t like it at all.
Real classy Howie, real classy.
Sure looks like Palin is winning the battle so far. I guess that is why the DNC/media Obomabots have spent so much time trying to destroy her. They always tell us who they fear by their obsession.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for this country
ReplyDeleteIt's not much of a "debate," given that Palin -- as usual -- is lying through her teeth. It's really kind of embarrassing to see journalists pretend this is some sort of even-handed discussion, given that one side (that's the Republicans, if you're scoring along at home) is just making things up. Please try to do better.
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin is a liar. There are no "death panels" in any of the bills; she just made that up. Real Americans love this country enough to tell the truth. What does that say about the Republicans who continually lie at every turn?
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin is dumb as a box of hair! The only reason people follow her is because she's physically beautiful...and too many people will forgive anything from a beautiful person. To think that there's actually a "twitter dual" between the President (a constitutional scholar) and Palin (a brunette bimbo) about health care reform is too ridiculous to be funny. Anybody who thinks we don't need a government-run option in health care reform is deluded and/or stupid. Oh, yeah, forgive me, these are the ones who believe Palin has a brain! LOL
ReplyDeleteThis is just the media being desperate for a story - I mean train wreck to cover... Palin only appeals the 5th graders in our society.
ReplyDeleteThis is just the media being desperate for a story - I mean train wreck to cover... Palin only appeals the 5th graders in our society.
ReplyDeleteThose that say Palin is just lying through her teeth really has nothing to back the statement up with. It is funny how some can just say something without facts. Give us facts, facts, facts, or just keep you typing to yourself.
ReplyDelete@Anon 5:06--Palin has been on Facebook for more than a year now. So, nice try with the "Palin just started, she will have more followers than Acorn Boy has any day soon now."
ReplyDeleteThis really is the best we can do? Hash out public policy on Facebook and Twitter? What's next--Blipverts?
wow Anon 6:23 PM.... really classy! While I'm a liberal Independent, and support the President and his policies, that comment is aweful and not indicative of any decent person.
ReplyDeleteThere should be a basic program of benefits for all the people in the country. Anyone could use it. No ID check, no income check, no requirements. Just go there. Nothing Cadillac. They could wait years, if necessary for elective surgery, or elective surgery could be eliminated altogether. It could be a program like VISTA, where for serving for a period, VISTA might pay for Medical or Nursing Schools for the staff. There could be long lines for service, like took place at the "Healthcare Expedition." The people that want better coverage could buy their own. It is inhumane to have nothing. You could be prosecuted for treating your pet like that. If you are against healthcare for poor and out of work, especially children and disabled you are stingy. Christian Organizations send missionaries to third world countries to give healthcare there, then their Church Members are opposed to healthcare for the poor here! This should not be a political fight. The media and the Healthcare Industry have used sore losers from the last election to distort the issue here.--G. Reed
ReplyDeleteLets see, Palin quit the highest elected office she has held. Now she is the point persons to oppose the President's health (insurance) overhaul. What a joke.
ReplyDeleteCan someone please post the page in the bill that creates death panels that decide if your life is worth spending health care dollars to save? There isn't one? gee whiz.
G. Reed's comment is right on!
ReplyDeleteWow, the big eared community organizer that throws like a girl is getting beaten down by a girl on facebook! How's that hopey changey going for ya kool aid drinkers?
ReplyDeletePalin lied about the "death panels." Palin lied about "the media" dragging her family into the spotlight. Palin claimed in November that a major newspaper had covered up an interview with Obama until right before the election; it had posted the interview online 10 months earlier.
ReplyDeleteHow many more "facts, facts, facts" do you need?
Big ears, big lies, big loss in 2012 to a girl. So long you radical marxist community organizer loser.
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed to be an American today. Thanks all you idiot Kool Aid guzzlers.
ReplyDeleteAnony 6:33
ReplyDeleteMy point exactly. Serious issues that have a profound effect on the nation, and yet we still have to tie it into facebook and twitter. Give me a break. Yet again another reason why the author of this "blog" is pathetic. But i know once he reads this he wont post it, because god forbid comments criticizing him were posted, he has already denied me multiple times. I heard today on NPR how newspapers once held a common belief that they should serve as a form of social informer and watch dog, reporting on things that we need to know and be aware of. But as I come to this website this is the only kind of work I get, or the daily slideshow. So much for real journalism huh
Obama=Worst President Ever.
ReplyDeleteSigned, Federal Deficit
Obama is the biggest joke ever to occupy a major office in the history of this country, and it shows.
ReplyDeletePalin is only ggod for one thing and that takes place under a desk:)
ReplyDeleteHow do you think she got the VP nomination?
Sure wasnt her smarts!
Why didn't Senator Ted Kennedy go get end of life consultation with his brain cancer, they would have told him to go home to meet hospice. No, he went all over America getting the best specialists in the world to treat him, at the tax payers expense. Typical liberal, they always know what option is best for everyone else, but the option is never good for them. They don't mind spending other peoples money, just don't expect them to spend their own. If the Kennedy's really supported all these programs they endorse, they would not have all the money they still have, which was all gained through illegal bootlegging. Let Ted use the program he is pushing. LOL
ReplyDeletePardon? Perhaps I am confused. Why are we comparing Obama with Palin? When is she going to go away and stop being a disgrace to this country?
ReplyDeleteSo we're going to go from Community Organizer Obama to voting in some dumb broad from the North Pole (whos only qualifications are a hot set of thighs) as President?
ReplyDeleteAmericans truly are idiots.
My dog has a higher IQ than the big ear dumbo community organizer.
ReplyDeleteI taught that big ear marxist everything he knows.
