Charlotte BarCamp 2 is huddled in Area 15 near NoDa today, for the Charlotte Area's chic-est geekfest, an "unconference" that develops as it goes. We're kicking off this morning with what looks like about 200 in the lofty, artsy space. It's a different crowd for Charlotte -- geekier, friendlier, not-so-Southern, happily nerdy. SEO man Corey Creed, massage therapist/geek Summer Plum, former Observerites Crystal Dempsey and Andria Krewson and, of course, Justin Ruckman, the boy hero of CLT Blog -- and one of the organizers -- are just a few faces in the crowd.

The topics for the seminars will be pitched in a moment. "And hopefully they're not all about Twitter," joked one of the organizers.

Nerds... go back to Raleigh/Chapel Hill. We don't want your kind around here!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's those 'nerds' that fuel the economy down here, boy-o. It's a shame so many people like you feel threatened by those of higher intelligence and technological savvy.
ReplyDeleteYay for geekdom! I can finally feel at home in my own hometown. (Now if only my son didn't have homework ....)
ReplyDeleteThose nerds don't fuel the economy here. The bankers/epicentre crowd do. How are we ever going to be seen as a world class city with a bunch of loser dorks running around. Figures they would have to shack up in some warehouse in NoDa. At least stay outta of uptown.
ReplyDeleteKeep the video coming - I thought about attending, but wasn't sure if it was right for me. Love to see what's going on!
ReplyDeleteAnon 1:02: I would have thought that in the past year ALL Charlotteans would have learned the dangers of putting all of one's economic eggs in one basket. There's room for both tech and finance here. What makes a city "world class" (oh, how I hate that phrase) is diversification and diversity.
ReplyDeletenerds unite!
ReplyDeleteAnon 1:02... No matter the industry, they ALL need tech-savvy engineers. I think you're just upset because the contractors who work in technology average an income of $45 per hour. That's 90K per year (since you probably have problems with math).
ReplyDeleteThis was a very cool event. I just came back from attending and met a lot of really great people and learned from some of the seminars given. If you missed out, you missed out on a good thing and best of all it was FREE!

ReplyDeleteApparently you think your comment is "world class". Dude or chick wake up! It takes all types of people to make up a "world class" city or town. Think before you speak. If it wasn't for those nerds or geeks you wouldn't be able to post your comments. I say bring on the geek! It's all about how you feel about everything, quit thinking negative and think about this going to be something positive which it looks like it is and I don't even live in the state but by blood I'm from there.
