"I do know who created the poll," said Farmer, who runs Bumbalabs in Palo Alto. (He lives a few blocks from Facebook's offices in Silicon Valley.) Farmer would not name the creator of the poll, preferring to let the Secret Service handle that. But did say the person does not live in the Southeast of the United States. He also suggested that this was "one person who created one poll" and that this was not a big conspiracy. "This kind of thing happens all the time," he said of objectionable content online.
Farmer, who said he worked for the Obama campaign in last fall's election, also said "95 percent voted no" in the poll, taken by more than 700 Facebook users. "Like 12 people voted yes," Farmer said.
Facebook pulled the poll Monday morning when the contents were discovered, Farmer said. "In some ways, I was the last to know," he said. Farmer checks any user complaints about polls every day, he said. Thousands of polls are created by Facebook users every day, he said.
"People shouldn't put too much stock in the crazy stuff people write on the internet," he said. But he added: "There is this strange thing happening with the president where some people feel this hostility for him, and they're expressing it publicly."

Well, There's whoever did it, and the 12 who voted yes. Surely we have 13 syringes and enough "Death Juice" to execute all of them.
ReplyDeletemight need another syringe for the idiot supporting the death penalty b/c of someone posting a stupid poll...see the absurdity continue
ReplyDeleteSO... your saying that people who just THINK that Obama should be killed deserve to be executed???
ReplyDeleteIn your own words sir add in that "14th syringe" for yourself.
People are entitled their opinion no matter HOW stupid it is.
Lastly, I'm no math major or statistician by any means... But the last time I checked a calculator 5% of 700+ is 35 - NOT 13. That number might be a little more scary.
No one ever said anything about killing George W. Bush, right? Of course they did, even made a movie about killing the president during his term. Left wing people have to be the most ridiculous knuckle draggers I ever saw in my life. They can do any mean, nasty, vile thing they want and its ok in their demented opinion. But let anyone sneeze around one of their marxist guys and they think he should be imprisoned, executed, etc. Freedom of speech should be freedom of speech for everyone. The secret service should go back and arrest a ton of let wing idiots who proposed the exact same thing during Bush's term. I am growing extremely tired of their whining all the time when someone on the right says something. The unibomber was not right wing, he was a left wing nut. People buring down houses under the eco name are not right wing, protesters at G-8 and G-20 summits are not right wing. They are all left wing nuts who burn, pillage, and destroy things in the name of what they want. Conservatives can yell loud indoors without left wing agitators declaring they are rude, dumb, put up to it, etc. I hope nothing ever happens to Barak, let him leave in 2012 and let's get on with correcting every dumb, idiotic thing he has set in motion.
ReplyDeleteIt shall be done.
Hear, hear!! I think the silent majority will not be silent in 2012! We can rid ourselves of Obama and the other radicals at the ballot box.
ReplyDeleteNot that I'm siding with the idiots who put up the Facebook poll, but, why weren't you people this upset when some moron called for shooting Bush a few years ago?
ReplyDeleteOh, wait, that was Bush and it must have been a Freedom of Speech issue? Right?
I am continually amazed by the hypocrisy of the left.
If you are a republican or a democrat the advocating of killing a president of the United States is moronic. We vote in a democracy, not murder if we don’t get our way. It is with Bush, Obama, or whatever president we elect. Only lunatics think that murder is the only way to solve whatever personal issues we have with our presidents.
ReplyDeleteA few comments with respect to the, "Anonymous said...” posting. I agree with the majority of what you said until you started with the "left wing right wing" comments. Free speech and thought is great, however, it must be tempered with the admonition from your mother, "if you cannot say anything nice, you should not say anything at all". Therefore, it is imperative that we be responsible for the smallest member of our body (tongue). Existentialism is great as long as we are willing to accept the consequences of our actions. I am willing to wager all that I have that everyone who cast a vote that President Obama should be assassinated will run and hide and swear an oath protesting their complicity (COWARDS) once the foul deed is done - I have seen it many times. I believe former President Bush to be an idiot before he became President, he proved it to me during his presidency, and I still believe him to be a fool, but not once did I pray for harm to come to him. You swore that you love our system (Democracy) and loathe all others; however, you bring great shame when you act like a dog that vomits (vitriolic speech) and then turns around and eat it. - Hotep
ReplyDeleteget your facts together people. the movie made about Bush being killed was a foreign film and both Democrats and Republicans publicly came out in strong opposition of it. you're hard pressed to even find the film in this country.
ReplyDeleteoh and there's no such thing as the "silent majority" in the US. but let me say this, if such a group does exist, it's not a bunch of screaming racist rednecks and right wing nutjobs; it's the less than 2% of this country that owns over 95% of the country's wealth. and i think its safe to say that their interests do not mirror those of tea party crazies.
12:07am It's fuuny you can mention the Left-Wing WIERDOS but say nothing of the Right-Wing WIERDOS(Timothy McVeigh, KKK, Neo-Nazis, Religious Fundamentalists, Limbaugh, etc.). Plus what does yelling at a Townhall Meeting have to do with "Conservatism"?
ReplyDeleteYes, there is a Silent Majority and they are made up of middle class people who normally go along quietly and do the best they can and only come out enmass when they are really angered and you will see them in 2012. Anyone who doesn't believe that knows nothing about politics. And what does yelling at Tea Parties have to do with Conservatism? The same thing Hillary screeching about Democrats having a right to say what they want without having their patriotism questioned on the video being shown all over TV and the internet says about Democrats and Liberalism!
ReplyDeleteI really think that the poll was senseless and reprehensible. However, I am one of the few African Americans who are a part of that silent majority who feel that this country made a grave mistake when people - who look like me - voted according to their color or the fact that their ears were tickled and not based upon the morality that our 'big mama' and 'grandpa' taught us. I personally can't wait until 2012 to boot his tail out of office. I embrace the opportunity to reestablish (as best we can) those conservative and old fashioned ideals that (in times past) has held the moral fabric of this country together.
ReplyDeleteRight now??? Those ideals are going to heck in a handbasket and all Obama can say is that those arguments are 'outdated'. That is enough to vote to put him out of office 2012 but not enough to harm him physically! :-(
PS - And no. . I don't loathe myself . . I just have enough sense to base my vote upon the issues and not the mere color of someone's skin!
I am amazed. We put an articulate, educated man in the WH..who happens to be a man of color..and people go insane. Obama's policies are no more radical than any other democratic president of the last 50 years. I would almost venture to say that he, like Bill Clinton, has ruled more from the political center.
ReplyDeleteHe is trying to solve a huge problem that has plauged this country and its people for decades (ie..health care costs and access), and also seems to be more thoughful and diplomatic on the world stage.
The sad truth is that the political right is inherantly racist and nasty. It is a truth tha many right wingers try to deny, but the events of the last 6 months have proven to me that it is true.
The conservative movement is in real trouble. They have no answers and no plans other than to result to name calling and lying to get their warped agenda going forward.
Abraham Lincoln is rolling over in his grave..
